Barbados Tridents Launch with National Anthem Video
The Barbados Tridents cricket team includes the Barbados National Anthem as part of the launch of their Hero Caribbean Premier League challenge.
A fresh and reverent take on the Barbados anthem was launched this week by The Tridents cricket team. Having gained permission from the Cabinet Office to use the anthem, Grammy-nominated musician, Nicholas Brancker, was sought and agreed to arrange the music. Mr. Brancker explained, "As we celebrate our 50th year of independence, it is important we embrace our past as we anticipate our future. With this in mind, the use of indigenous rhythms and instrumentation to accompany the anthem is a symbol of maturity and confidence as a nation. The voices of the past, present and future are combined to give aural testimony to the Barbadian continuum."
The accompanying video features dozens of Barbadians from all walks of life singing along with the anthem. These include Sir Trevor Carmichael, Reverend Dr. Marcus Lashley, surfer Chelsea Roett, saxophonist Arturo Tappin, Internet personality Seth Bovell and West Indies cricketer Hayley Matthews.
The Tridents, owned by Sid Mallya, includes the video as the Hero Caribbean Premier League cricket team is launched in Barbados across all media and on their digital platforms.
Mr. Mallya, who is also Chairman of the Tridents, said, “The Tridents are Barbadian in name, nature and spirit, so I’m genuinely happy the video reflects this.”
